Three members attended the AFSCME Iowa Legislative Conference on March 13, 2013 in Altoona at the Prairie Meadows Conference Center. Highlights were a live link with Iowa 1st Congressional District Representative Bruce Braley where it was announced that AFSCME has endorsed him in the 2014 race for US Senator from Iowa. Iowa Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal and Iowa House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy also addressed the attendees. The morning also included presentations by AFSCME State Lobbyist Marcia Nichols who provided an update on current bills in the house and senate. After a great lunch and drawings for door prizes, we all boarded buses for the statehouse to meet with senators and representatives from our districts.
