2008 Holiday Dinner and Show

On Friday, December 5th, Local 96 members and their guests were invited to dinner at The Broiler restaurant just west of Ames followed by ISU Theatre performance of "A Christmas Carol" held in Fisher Theater.

Thirty five members and guests were able to attend the dinner, and twenty eight were able to attend the show.  After we placed our orders, President Rita Knight welcomed everyone and gave us an update on contract negotiations and the importance of membership in our local to continue having a Local 96 member on the state contract committee every two years.

In addition to the dinner, members names were put in a basket for door prizes such as Mugs, T-Shirts, Leather Cell Phone Case, OXO Cheese Slicer, Honda Motorcycle Gloves, and Grand Prize of a Soft Sided Mini-Cooler won by Liese.  Every member attending also received a new green AFSCME mouse pad for use in their office.

From our President:
We've had a great year and added so many new members. This was the best Holiday Party we have ever had with great food, and great conversation. The sweet potato fries are yummy and the service was top notch.

I am looking forward to our Membership Drive early in 2009 where we are taking employees interested in becoming members to an ISU Women's Basketball game and tailgate party. If you know someone who is interested in attending you should come with them.

-Rita

Comments from Members:
  • I had a great time at the holiday party. The food at The Broiler was top-notch and the staff served us efficiently so that we could get to Fisher Theater in time to see "A Christmas Carol". Thanks to all the members of our local and their guests that came to the party and shared in the spirit of the season! -Liese
  • It was great to have so many members together for the dinner at The Broiler.  Great food at an Ames institution.  I had the Salmon with their special sauce, and wish I had saved some room for desert!  The play had a huge cast and great costumes.  Jane Cox wrote and directed a wonderful adaptation of the Dicken's classic.  -Andy, VP.
  • It was fun.  We had more time to mingle/meet/talk to other members.  -Jean
