Iowa Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO (IFL)

AFSCME Local 96 is affiliated with the Iowa Federation of Labor (AFL-CIO).  The Iowa Fed has an convention held in August of each year to set policy and educate union leadership and members on issues of importance.  Both public sector and private sector unions join together for the betterment of all working families in the state of Iowa.  Local 96 elects a delegate to the 3-4 day convention in usually held in Altoona at Prairie Meadows Convention Center, which is staffed by employees represented by AFSCME.

    • Dale Jeter, 3rd District Vice President (Local 96 has 5 votes in the 3rd district; Dale is from Ankeny)
    • Sandy Opstvedt, 4th District Vice President (Local 96 has 50 votes in the 4th district; Sandy is with IBEW and lives in Story City.)
